The ’seek and scan’ game

By admin • July 22, 2004 • Filed in: General

Every day on the commute to and from work, I have a little custom that I love to perform. In order to break the monotomy of a 40 minute drive, I will hit the seek and scan buttons on my radio and allow the radio to seek and scan all the channels for a brief interval of approximately ten seconds per station. When I find something decent to listen to, I will stop the seek and scan until the ‘decent listening’ is over and something boring comes on to where I repeat the seek and scan game. I also do this on long driving trips.

In the mornings, I start off with ESPN Radio’s Mike and Mike In The Morning (Golic Rocks!!!) along with the ever so cool Bob Picozzi until I lose the signal. By that time, I press the seek and scan buttons until I come across the Christian radio station that plays Scripture As Told by Max McLean for I love to listen to McLean’s voice. The I hit the seek and scan buttons as required before I arrive at work.

In the afternoons, I play the seek and scan game all the way from work to home.

You have discovered a precious truth that sadly most men and especiallyhristian men do not get.

I say Christian men because from what I’ve seen in my 40+ years as a believer, Christian men seem to be especially prone to what I am about to say.

Men seem to have a “maybe something is better over the hill”when it comes to marrying.

I have a friend who went through this with a Christian guy who was a cast member of a hugely popular sitcom years ago. That was his claim to fame. He kind of wanted to marry her but felt there might be someone better and prettier in his future. So, wisely she dumped him.Later she found someone who is much better looking (at least IMO).

And what happend to the other guy? After the series went off the air you never heard of him again. He tried his hand at singing and I think now appears at Branson with the revived Lawrence Welk show. He would be in his 60’s now.

I don’t know if he ever married.
