Therefore, since the armorbearer is no longer required in the New Covenant life, what do we do with the armor? Well, the New Testament tells of wars in the spiritual realm. Where the wars in the Old Testament were physical in nature, the wars in the New Testament are Spiritual in nature. Where in the Old Testament, the victory was referred to as for example "David and his armies with the strength of the Lord defeated...", the New Testament referrs to warfare and victory in the collective sense. For example, there are verses that state realities such as "the weapons of our warfare are not carnal...", "We wrestle not against flesh and blood...", and others. Where in the Old Testament only a select few went to war, in the New Testament, everyone is called unto proper and Godly spiritual warfare (not "mapping", not "spiritual star wars", or other extremes). Paul tells us in Ephesians how to fight these Spiritual wars. In Ephesians 6:10-18 we see the following Scriptures:
10A final word: Be strong with the Lord's mighty power.11Put on all of God's armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies and tricks of the Devil.12 For we are not fighting against people made of flesh and blood, but against the evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against those mighty powers of darkness who rule this world, and against wicked spirits in the heavenly realms.13Use every piece of God's armor to resist the enemy in the time of evil, so that after the battle you will still be standing firm.14Stand your ground, putting on the sturdy belt of truth and the body armor of God's righteousness.15For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News, so that you will be fully prepared.16In every battle you will need faith as your shield to stop the fiery arrows aimed at you by Satan.17Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.18 Pray at all times and on every occasion in the power of the Holy Spirit. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all Christians everywhere.
Since the war is spiritual, the armor is also spiritual. We see this in verses ten through twelve of Ephesians 6. In fact, we see that every piece of the armor listed in the later verses is needed for full protection of the Christian in order to stand firm and be victorious. Therefore, we are no longer ARMORBEARERS for some king and his personal agendas, we are now forced because of our callings as a child of God to be ARMORWEARERS to do proper and Godly Spiritual Warfare to advance the mandates of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
Note!! I will not go into detail about the specific pieces of armor in this article because the focus of the article is on the concept of armorwearing. I have previously written articles for a series entitled "CharisErratic" that deals with some of the extremes and with Godly implementation during true Spiritual Warfare.
Because we are called into Spiritual Warfare in the collective sense referring to the Body of Christ and the verses dealing with Spiritual warfare are collective in nature dealing with the Body of Christ, the warfare done is not an "army of one" individual. It is an "army of one" body of collective Christians who come into agreement to defeat the enemy. Therefore, all the Christians in a particular battle inferred to as "We" experience the victory, blessings, and sometimes sorrows and hurts together. Because of this, the collective unified Body of Christ has not been excused from the requirement of bearing. Now, it is no longer the armor of a leader (and in some cases a leader's pride and ego) that requires bearing. Instead, it is the burdens of each other within the Body of Christ that requires bearing. Paul discusses this in Galatians 6:1-10 where he states:
1 Dear brothers and sisters, if another Christian is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself.2Share each other's troubles and problems, and in this way obey the law of Christ.3If you think you are too important to help someone in need, you are only fooling yourself. You are really a nobody.4 Be sure to do what you should, for then you will enjoy the personal satisfaction of having done your work well, and you won't need to compare yourself to anyone else.5For we are each responsible for our own conduct.6Those who are taught the word of God should help their teachers by paying them.7Don't be misled. Remember that you can't ignore God and get away with it. You will always reap what you sow!8 Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful desires will harvest the consequences of decay and death. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit.9So don't get tired of doing what is good. Don't get discouraged and give up, for we will reap a harvest of blessing at the appropriate time.10Whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone, especially to our Christian brothers and sisters.
By first letting our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ know of the things that are causing us problems and to stumble, then we are able to bear the burdens of our weakened brother and sister in Christ. It is also through this openness and transparency that the flesh dies and the Spirit lives. We help each other fight each other's battles as we co-labor together for the cause of Christ. Therefore, there are no slaves and slavehood. It is now discipleship and servanthood. It is also through bearing each other's burdens that we enter into healthy relationships with each other. Accountability, submission, mentoring, discipleship, servanthood, and ministry is learned and implemented in this setting and the skills honed and acquired in this setting can be further used when we go out into the highways and minister to the lost. It is through ministering to the lost using skills accured via ministering to each other that the Church can fulfill the Great Commission mandate. Therefore, the calling is no longer something to be dreaded or feared. Instead it becomes a joy when Christians dwell together in unity to fulfill God's will.
In summary, we are equal in God's eyes, Revelation chapter one states that we are all kings and priests. However, we worship Jesus, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. It is by our surendering to Jesus that we learn to bear each other burdens as we learn to wear our armor for Spiritual war. By being supernaturally natural, we are able to reach out to the society we live in and develop relationships that bring people into a walk with Jesus. We rejoice when it's time to rejoice and we war when it is time to war. In order to be further effective, we must learn from the extremes and excesses of the previous generations and moves of God in order not to repeat the same mistakes. Also, we must know the signs of the times and learn to recognize when the "new" thing is actually an old thing repackaged. Spiritual abuse must stop. Spiritual nepotism must stop, and Spiritual favortism must stop. For God does look at the inside of the heart and not the outside garments. Remember, we are supposed to render our hears and not our garments. Saul rendered the garments of influence as an unacceptable sacrifice while David rendered the heart of affluence as an acceptable obedience.
Lord, right now in the name of Jesus, I ask that you would free us with your love and grace. I also ask that you would show us proper spiritual warfare and show us how to wear our armor. I ask that you would allow your people to praise your name to be spirtually affluent giving you all the Glory. Father, I praise you for your amazing and unfailing love. Show us the proper way to wear the armor and bear each other's burdens. In Jesus name I pray, AMEN.
